Pastor
Rev. William V.P. Sitterley, Jr.
Born and raised
in Bethlehem, PA, Bill completed his secondary schooling at The
Mercersburg Academy. Graduating from Columbia University in New
York City with a BA in religion, he went on to earn his Masters
of Divinity degree from Fuller Theological Seminary in California.
Bill's experience
in the ministry ranges from college ministry at Hollywood Presbyterian
Church, to campus chaplain at Oberlin College in Ohio and then
serving as an associate pastor at Madeira Presbyterian Church
in suburban Cincinnati, Ohio.
In recent years
Bill felt led by the Lord to pursue Christian service in an international
context. To that end, he began work with Habitat for Humanity International
in Asia-Pacific as a Presbyterian Missions Associate. While overseas,
Bill served in various roles ranging from rural development work
to serving as the first Pacific Regional Director. During those
years Habitat's work in the region extended to 20 countries where
over 18,000 houses had been built. While traveling to many countries,
Bill has also been a resident of Papua New Guinea, New Zealand,
and Thailand.
Bill's skills
that were developed overseas are readily transferable to the service
in the church. Since it is no longer fair to see ourselves as living
in a "Christian culture," he feels we need to approach the changing
communities in which we live with the perspective and passions of
a missionary.
Rather than
seeing his involvement in the church as "maintenance" work, he is
passionate about developing and nurturing a sense of vision within
the church, and helping people to always maintain their focus on
the true mission of the church.
Bill is married
to Itchaya (nicknamed "Noi"), a native of Thailand. She received
her B.A. from Payap University, where she continued to serve after
graduating both on the faculty and as an administrator. During those
years she also took breaks to earn an M.A. from Chiang Mai University,
an M.A. from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Illinois and a Ph.D. from
the University of the Philippines in Development Communication.
Her communication skills have been used on radio and TV, and as
director of the Christian Communications Institute of Thailand.
They have an
21 year old son, Nathan, at Salisbury University.
